Unique Scents for Autumn

Autumn is the perfect time to refresh your home with a new scent. The darker evenings and the crisp weather are exactly the right ambience for the pleasant glow of a scented candle. But, as anyone who loves fragrance will tell you, it’s the scent itself that will really set the tone for the season.

Early autumn is the perfect time for a little creative liberty. While most seasons are associated with specific fragrances, autumn lends itself to a multitude of different scents. Whether you want something tart and fruity to lead into the festive season, or something smokey and woody to create a fireside ambience, you’ll be able to find the perfect scent to suit your mood. Even a floral scented candle can help you hold onto the waning summer months just a little bit longer!

We have a few suggestions for the best and most unique scents to look for this autumn.

1. Vetiver

If you’re a connoisseur of fragrance, vetiver will be familiar to you. It’s a green fragrance often associated with cut grass and temperate weather. However, in combination with woody or musky fragrances, it can add a rich, earthy quality that evokes misty woodland paths and petrichor — the after-rain fragrance. It’s the perfect scent to bridge the space between summer and autumn, when you still might enjoy a few warm days between the early seasonal rains.

For those of us who will miss the greenery of the outdoors, this is a must have fragrance. If vetiver sounds appealing to you, it’s a key component of our Portobello scent.

2. Woodsmoke

If you’re the kind of person who dives headfirst into the autumn months, woodsmoke is the bold choice. An elegant and luxurious fragrance, woodsmoke evokes the feeling of being in a cosy library or sitting in a leather armchair next to a warm fire. Given the power of this scent, however, it’s important to keep in mind that woodsmoke will transform whatever space you put it in. This actually can extend the life of your candle a great deal, as you’ll only need to burn it for a short while to fill the room.

If you’re looking for a softer alternative, seek out cedar or sandalwood instead. They’ll have the same rich tones, but without the mingled scent of charred wood. Our Grand Cascade candle is a perfect beautiful smoky cedar choice.

3. Tart Fruit — Blackberry, Cherry & Pomegranate

Fruity fragrances can be the perfect segway into the festive months. If you love desserts and cocktails, these rich, gourmand scents will make your home smell like freshly baked goods — the perfect ambience to set just before hosting! These are also excellent in combination with woody scents, giving a little sweetness to more musky scents without entirely overpowering them.

For a perfect example of a fruity scent fit for autumn, try our current scent of the month, Rubus.

4. Fig

Fig is a surprisingly flexible ingredient. Although one might associate figs with the festive season, they’re actually a pleasant addition to the house year around. Because fig can often be paired with a great number of different ingredients, it can be simultaneously fruity, woody or floral. It’s definitely a scent that can’t be easily categorised, but it’s always warm. When burned in the autumn months, it can create an immensely cosy ambience for your home.

Redolent Fig is our year round fig scent. Fig lovers will be able to enjoy this no matter the season.

Whether you prefer the warm glow of a scented candle or the addition of a new reed diffuser, it’s time to change the mood.
